WHAT WE OFFER

Travel Health Care, Start to Finish

From the first consultation to the post-trip check-in, our pharmacists handle the full pre-travel workup.

Pre-Travel Risk Review

A pharmacist reviews your itinerary, health history, and destination-specific risks, then builds a plan tailored to your trip.

Travel Vaccinations

Hepatitis A & B (and Twinrix), typhoid, meningococcal (for Hajj or sub-Saharan Africa), Japanese encephalitis, rabies pre-exposure, and routine boosters like Tdap, polio, and MMR. Yellow fever is referred out — see below.

Anti-Malarial Medications

Prescription anti-malarials selected for your destination, trip duration, and health profile — Malarone, doxycycline, and others. Available by prescription only.

Post-Travel Assessment

Feeling unwell after a trip? A pharmacist can assess your symptoms and point you to the right next step — often the family doctor or, for serious symptoms, the ER.

Destination-Specific Advice

Recommendations for your exact destination — food and water safety, altitude, climate, and country-specific concerns, drawn from current Government of Canada and WHO advisories.

Insect Repellent & Bite Prevention

In-store DEET and icaridin repellents (icaridin 20% is Health Canada’s preferred option for kids 6 months and up), plus permethrin-treated clothing guidance for high-risk regions.

Yellow Fever Vaccinations

Yellow fever can only be administered at federally designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres. We refer patients to WRHA Travel Health & Tropical Medicine Services, 490 Hargrave St in Winnipeg.

Booking: 204-940-TRIP (8747). Plan ahead — they typically book 6 to 8 weeks in advance, and the vaccine needs 10 days to become protective.

How a Travel Consultation Actually Works

Most travel medicine comes down to three questions: where are you going, what shots do you already have, and how soon do you leave. The right answers depend on your destination, your itinerary, and your existing health.

Our pharmacists work through that with you in a single appointment. Common situations we handle: food and water-borne illnesses like traveller’s diarrhea, typhoid, and hepatitis A; vector-borne illnesses including malaria and dengue; and altitude, climate, and environmental risks.

Whether you’re backpacking through Southeast Asia, visiting family in the Caribbean, or heading on business to sub-Saharan Africa, we’ll get you covered before you go.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Travel Health Questions

It depends on your destination and what you’ll be doing there. Hepatitis A and typhoid are commonly recommended for Mexico and parts of the Caribbean. Some regions may require or recommend others. Book a pre-travel consultation and we’ll work out a plan based on your itinerary.
4 to 6 weeks before departure is ideal — some vaccines need multiple doses or take time to become fully effective. That said, last-minute travellers still benefit. Even a week out, we can usually get core protection in place (Hep A, typhoid, Tdap booster).
Yes. Public travel clinics often book 6 to 8 weeks out, which doesn’t help when you’ve just been told you’re going. We see short-notice travellers regularly and can usually do a same-week consultation and start vaccines that day. Call us to confirm what’s realistic for your timeline.
Yellow fever can only be administered at federally designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres. We refer patients to WRHA Travel Health & Tropical Medicine Services at 490 Hargrave St in Winnipeg — call 204-940-TRIP (8747) to book. There is a $20 injection fee for each vaccine administered. Some vaccines may be covered by your insurance plan. The consultation itself is included with our pharmacy services. Contact us for pricing on specific vaccines.

Yes — our pharmacists assess your malaria risk and prescribe an appropriate anti-malarial based on your destination, trip duration, and health profile. We carry the major options (Malarone, doxycycline, and others). Available by prescription only.
A fever within three months of returning from a malaria-risk area should be evaluated urgently — go to the ER or your family doctor that day, not the pharmacy. For milder symptoms (lingering diarrhea, mild fatigue), we can help you decide on next steps and whether you need physician follow-up.
