Baclofen

Muscle relaxant used in spasticity from MS, spinal cord injury, and other conditions

Baclofen treats spasticity (involuntary muscle stiffness) from multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, and similar conditions. Doses are titrated up over weeks. Sudden stopping can cause severe withdrawal symptoms.

How the pharmacy helps

We dispense 10 mg and 20 mg tablets. The pharmacist will plan a slow start and a slow stop with the prescriber.

Abrupt withdrawal of Baclofen can cause severe rebound spasticity, agitation, and other serious symptoms. Always taper.
Drowsiness is common, especially early. Slow titration helps.
The intrathecal pump version delivers Baclofen directly to the spinal cord. That is managed by a hospital team, not from community pharmacy.
