Fentanyl Transdermal Patch

Long-acting opioid patch for stable severe pain

The Fentanyl patch (Duragesic, Trans-Tec) delivers a steady dose of opioid through the skin over 72 hours. It is reserved for patients with stable severe pain who are already opioid-tolerant.

How the pharmacy helps

Fentanyl is a narcotic. The patch carries serious risk of overdose if applied to broken skin, exposed to heat, or chewed. We provide written application/removal instructions and a return-the-used-patch program — used patches still contain drug.

Access framing

Available by prescription only. Fentanyl is a narcotic — original prescriptions required, no refills permitted. Used patches must be returned to the pharmacy.

Storage

Patches must stay sealed until use. Store flat, away from heat and out of reach of children and pets.

Disposal

Used patches must be folded sticky-side-in and returned to the pharmacy. They still contain enough drug to harm a child or pet.
