Lamotrigine

Anticonvulsant — also used in bipolar disorder

Lamotrigine (Lamictal) is used in epilepsy and bipolar disorder. Doses are titrated up slowly over weeks to lower the chance of a serious skin rash.

How the pharmacy helps

We dispense 25, 100, 150, and 200 mg. The pharmacist will explain rash warning signs at first fill and confirm the titration schedule.

Lamotrigine Questions

Slow titration reduces the chance of Stevens-Johnson syndrome — a rare but serious rash. Skipping the slow build is risky.
Any new rash, especially with mouth sores, fever, or eye involvement. Stop and seek medical attention same day.
Hormonal contraceptives can lower lamotrigine levels. Tell the pharmacist if starting/stopping.
