Levothyroxine

Thyroid hormone replacement (Synthroid, Eltroxin)

Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Eltroxin) replaces the thyroid hormone the body cannot make enough of. It is taken on an empty stomach, ideally first thing in the morning, with water — wait at least 30 minutes before food, coffee, or supplements.

How the pharmacy helps

We stock all common strengths from 25 mcg to 200 mcg. Levothyroxine is a narrow-therapeutic-index drug — switching brands without prescriber approval is generally not recommended.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions
Levothyroxine Questions

Calcium, iron, coffee, and high-fibre foods reduce absorption. Wait at least 30 minutes before any of those.
Talk to the prescriber. Even small differences in absorption can change TSH, so brand consistency is the safer default.
Usually 6–8 weeks after a dose change, then less often once stable.
