Bioidentical progesterone for hormone therapy

Progesterone (Prometrium) is bioidentical progesterone, used alongside estrogen in many menopause regimens to protect the uterine lining. It is also used for some sleep, mood, and fertility plans.

Oral progesterone often causes drowsiness, so most prescribers schedule it at bedtime to use that as a feature.
Yes. Bioidentical progesterone is structurally the same as the body's own; progestins are different molecules with somewhat different effects.
Vaginal use bypasses the liver and is sometimes preferred. The prescriber chooses based on the indication.
