What is it?

Rifampin is an antibiotic used for specific infections and to clear certain bacteria that people carry. When a patient cannot swallow capsules, the medication is compounded into a measured liquid so the dose can be given accurately by oral syringe.

How to use

Shake well and measure each dose with the oral syringe provided. Complete the full course as directed even if the patient feels better. Rifampin can turn urine, tears, and other body fluids a harmless red-orange colour and can stain soft contact lenses. Tell the prescriber about all other medications, as rifampin interacts with many.

About Rifampin Suspension

Rifampin is commonly compounded at 25 mg/mL or 50 mg/mL. The prescriber chooses the concentration; an oral syringe and the measured concentration are dispensed with every suspension.
This is an expected and harmless effect of rifampin. It can stain soft contact lenses, so check with the prescriber about contact lens use during treatment.
