Prescriber-led preparation

Compounding is used when the prescription needs something different from a ready-made product.

Trimix intraurethral gel contains the same active ingredients as Trimix injections but is delivered via the urethra — a needle-free alternative for men who prefer not to inject.

What is Trimix Gel?

Trimix intraurethral gel contains the same active ingredients as our Trimix injections — alprostadil, papaverine, and phentolamine. However, instead of injecting into the penis, the gel is inserted into the urethra using a needleless syringe.

An erection is usually produced within 5 to 20 minutes of application.

How is it Used?

The exact supply format can vary. Follow the prescription label and the instructions provided with your medication. Trimix gel is inserted into the urethral opening with a needleless syringe, then the prescribed dose is slowly administered.

For the visual patient handout, see the Trimix intraurethral gel instructions.

How Effective is it?

Trimix gel is known to be as effective as, or even more effective than, oral ED medications in producing an erection. However, it is generally not as effective as intracavernosal injection.

Each mixed syringe provides 0.6 mL of gel. At the usual starting dose of 0.2 mL, each syringe provides three doses. Some patients require 0.3 mL (two doses per syringe) or up to 0.6 mL (one dose per syringe).

Storage

Unmixed: Good for one year. Store in the refrigerator.

After mixing: Must be used within 30 days. Store in the refrigerator.

We provide the product unmixed to give patients the longest possible shelf life.
