Furosemide
Loop diuretic for fluid retention and heart failure
Furosemide (Lasix) removes extra fluid quickly. It is used for fluid build-up from heart failure, kidney problems, or liver disease, and sometimes for blood pressure.
How the pharmacy helps
We dispense 20 mg, 40 mg, and 80 mg tablets and can prepare a daily-dose blister pack if dose timing is hard to keep track of.

That is how Furosemide works. The effect is strongest in the first few hours after a dose. Most patients take it in the morning for that reason.
Many heart failure plans ask patients to weigh in daily. Sudden weight gain can mean fluid is building up — let your prescriber know.
