What is Clomiphene?

Clomiphene citrate (brand name Clomid) is a selective estrogen receptor modulator used in fertility treatment. Since Clomid is no longer commercially available in Canada, clomiphene must be obtained from a compounding pharmacy.

Uses in Women and Men

In women: Clomiphene is used to induce ovulation, increasing the chances of conception. It works by blocking estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus, which stimulates the release of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and triggers ovulation.

In men: Clomiphene may be used to treat infertility or to boost low testosterone levels. By blocking estrogen's negative feedback signal in the pituitary gland, it stimulates increased gonadotropin release, which signals the testes to produce more testosterone and sperm.
