What to know

Information to review with your prescriber or care team

These notes are educational and do not replace directions from your prescriber or the label on your prescription.

What is it?

Probenecid helps the body clear uric acid and is used in some gout care plans. It is also sometimes prescribed alongside certain antibiotics to keep antibiotic levels higher for longer. When the commercial product is not available, it is compounded into capsules at the prescriber's strength.

How to use

Take as directed on the prescription, usually with food and plenty of water. Tell the prescriber and pharmacy about all other medications, as probenecid changes the levels of several drugs.
