Ciprofloxacin

Fluoroquinolone antibiotic — reserved for specific infections

Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone reserved for specific infections (some UTIs, certain GI infections, anthrax exposure). Health Canada has issued strong warnings about tendon and nerve effects, so it is not a first-line antibiotic for most situations.

How the pharmacy helps

We dispense 250 and 500 mg tablets and oral suspension. The pharmacist will check that a fluoroquinolone is the right choice and review precautions.
